For a peaceful night rest, say this Brief Prayer

Often times, when we try to fall asleep, we still remain restless and anxious, always thinking about all the many responsibilities we have. And this can make going to bed very difficult, reducing the amount of time our body has to recover each night.

The only prayer that can help you place your trust in God is the prayer of Jesus Christ on the cross. Over the centuries, many have prayed this Jesus’ prayer before going to bed,

“Lord, into your hands I commend my spirit”.

This prayer of Jesus is a powerful prayer, one that can be difficult to pray. The reason why it can be difficult is that it’s the prayer Jesus said before dying on the cross.

When you say this prayer, you are performing a complete act of resignation, giving to God your entire self, all your worries, anxieties, but also, your soul.

At the same time, when this prayer is said in faith, it can usher in feelings of peace and serenity. It can also recall the reality that God is in control, not us. We don’t have the power to change our circumstances, except through the grace of God.

This can only help relieve the burdens of your life, realizing that you are not alone. In fact, God is always there by your side.

As a Pope, St. John XXIII had a similar prayer that he prayed every night because he had much on his mind and was responsible for the entire Church. Just imagine about the weight of that responsibility!

Instead of him to worry all night long, he simply says to God “It’s your Church, God. I’m going to bed!”

As faithful Christians, we should have the same attitude and place our lives in God’s hands, saying alongside Jesus,

“ Lord, into your hands I commend my spirit. ”
